Jennifer Shigetomi initially pursued an education in fine arts. She soon recognized that her innate technical side needed an outlet.

After exploring extracurricular courses in wax carving for jewellery, Jennifer realized that she had found a medium which balanced both artistry and technique. Subsequently, she enrolled in a goldsmith program and in 1996 she opened Matsu. Jennifer works in her studio in Toronto, ON.
